About HydroGrowLab

Why This Site Exists

HydroGrowLab started with a single system on a kitchen counter and the same question a lot of visitors here are probably asking: can you actually grow real food indoors, without a yard, without soil, and without years of gardening experience?

The short answer turned out to be yes — but almost everything we found online when we started was either a marketing page for a specific product or a forum thread assuming you already knew the basics. We started this site to be the resource we wish we’d had: honest, specific, and based on plants we’ve actually grown ourselves — not just specifications copied from a manufacturer’s website.

What We Cover

HydroGrowLab focuses specifically on hydroponic and indoor growing for home gardeners — countertop systems, DIY builds, grow lights and tents, and the everyday troubleshooting that comes with all of it. We’re not trying to cover every gardening topic under the sun. If it’s about growing food indoors without soil, it’s what we’re here for.

Our Approach to Reviews and Recommendations

We believe a product recommendation is only useful if it’s based on real use, not a spec sheet. Where possible, we test systems, lights, and equipment ourselves before writing about them — tracking real growth, real problems, and real running costs rather than repeating manufacturer claims. When we haven’t personally tested something, we say so, and we build our guidance from manufacturer documentation, horticultural research, and the collective experience of the wider growing community instead.

HydroGrowLab earns commissions through affiliate partnerships and advertising, which fund the time it takes to test equipment and write in-depth guides. This never determines which products we recommend — see our full Affiliate Disclosure for details.

Our Editorial Standards

  • We update product guides regularly, since manufacturers release new models and change pricing often.
  • We disclose affiliate relationships clearly, both in our Affiliate Disclosure and inline where relevant.
  • We correct errors when we find them — if you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us (see our Contact page).
  • We don’t accept payment in exchange for a specific rating or recommendation.
